| Transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect secundum become an alternative method for surgery, sizing of defect with device closure is routinely done under transesophageal echocardiography which are expensive technique and not easily affordable in many center, some center start to using of transthoracic echocardiography with limitation for age ,weight and size complexity of defect To determine the role transthoracic echocardiography in pre-intervention sizing of ASD secundum and guidance during transcatheter closure of ASD secundum together with fluoroscopy in cardiac catheterization laboratory. In order to reduce the cost and simplify the procedure One hundred eight patients with ASD secundum were selected by TTE for transcatheter closure with ASO in Iraqi center for heart disease in Baghdad city of them 64% female and 36%male ,age was rang form (1-65) yrs mean +/- SD(20.41-14.68) years and weight range from (9-103)kg mean (45.08-27.04) Defect size range from (7-35) mm mean (19.76-8-24) and ASO occluder size range (10.5-40) mm mean (23.53-9.07), the success rate was 94.5%. In 13% of cases were complex cases either complex type of defect or complex anatomy of heart and we use procedure that help to increase the success rate of occluder implantation in 19 case (17.59%) like balloon assistance or dilator method, we found positive relationship between size of defect and size of device There was no significance for gender, age or weight in success or failure of procedure but the only significance is the size of defect and device The TTE is good way for detect the accurate sizing of ASD secundum and guiding the ASD intervention procedure with no limitation for age weight of patient or defect size or complexity of defect. | ||
