Abstract
Abstract Swimmers with disabilities are classified according to the level of their remaining abilities or functional level of their disabilities, which is determined by medical tests to groups of S1 to S15. The researcher chose S9 group, which includes physical disabilities such as, amputation, paralysis of the limbs. This level of disabilities is more than S10 and less than groups S1 – S8.Backstroke requires reciprocal movements of the arms and legs. With amputation or paralysis in one limb or more, swimmers cannot rely on their legs on progress through the water. Contrary, they become an additional burden on the arms to work harder to withdrawn them with the trunk forward. Therefore, the requirements of flexibility are more important for people with disabilities to achieve the best performance and compensate lost capabilities or the infected parts. The research aims to identify the relationship of the direction and the amount of flexibility of the shoulder joint and its impact on the performance of the 100 backstroke for Iraqi national swimmers who are physically impaired category S9. By using the experimental method and appropriate means, researcher concluded that time of swimming 100m backstroke for disabled category S9 has an inverse relationship with the range of motion of the shoulder joint when recycling outside and to the inside and the stretching back and abduction. That flexibility exercises applied a clear and positive impact in the achievement of swimming 100 m backstroke for the disabled swimmers category S9
