| Abstract | ||
| This paper tackles the relationship between soul and body in the philosophical framework. It examines such relationship according to two very rich philosophers: Descartes and Tabatabai. The paper traces the basis of each philosophy and what it reflects on the philosophical map. Hence, the main results of this research are that: the separation between soul and body is subjective while the unity between them is conventional regarding Descartes's point of view. On the other hand, for Tabatabai the unity between soul and body is substance and the difference between them is merely conventional. Descartes states three speculations regarding these two spirits theory.(anima) spirits, theory, and parallelism theory). while Tabatabai considers the difference between soul and body is a matter of levels. The highest level is the human soul. Finally, this research attempts to show that Tabatabai has found a sort of solution for the problematic relationship between soul and body. While, for Descartes, he didn’t give any solution for such type of relationship. | ||
