| Abstract | ||
| This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of supplementation different levels of Canthaxanthin(CX) to diet on productive traits of the white layer chicken. Ninety six females and 24 male of layer chicken 60 week old were used, brought from the poultry farm of Animal Resources Department, College of Agriculture - University of Baghdad. The birds were divided randomly into 4 groups. Each group was sub-divided into 3 equal replicates of (8 females plus 2 male). First group T1 control group (without supplementation) and others T2, T3 and T4 supplemented with 4, 8 and 12 mg CX / kg diet respectively. Result indicated that the supplementation of CX led to significant increase (P <0.05) in T3 in the egg production percentage at the 6th week of the experiment. As well as highly significant increase (P <0.01) in T2 and T4 at the 7th and at 10th week for T3 of the experiment. Significant decrease (P <0.05) in feed conversion ratio for T3 at the 6th and at 8th week for T3 and T4 of the experiment, and highly significant decrease (P <0.01) for T2 and T4 at the 7th and at 10th week for T3 and T4 of the experiment. Significant increase (P <0.05) in the haugh unit (HU) for T2 with a highly significant increase (P <0.01) in the albumin index at the 6th week for all supplemented groups of the experiment. All supplemented groups showed significant increase (P <0.05) in the egg shape at the 12th week of the experiment, and highly significant increase (P <0.01) in yolk color pigmentation according yolk color fan and equivalent carotenoids pigments mg / g yolk at weeks 6th and 12th of the experiment, and there was a positive correlation between the amount of CX supplementation and color intensity. | ||
