A study was conducted at agricultural research station, College of Agriculture, University of Basrah to study the effect of spraying of gibberellic acid and coconut milk on vegetative, flowering and root growth of dahlia (Dahlia variabilis L.) .
The experiment included three concentration of Gibberellic acid (GA3) (0, 250 and 500) mg.L-1 and three concentration of coconut milk (0, 30 and 60)% with three spraying times where one month between each spraying time.
Randomized complete block design were used for factorial experiment in three replications and revised least significant differences test were used to compaire the means at 5% level.
The results showed that GA3 spraying by 500 mg.L-1 increased most characteristics of vegetative and flowering growth such as increased plant hieght (cm), stem diameter (cm), leaves number, auxiliary shoots and fresh weight (g) which were (26.89, 0.59, 129.00, 13.33 and34.53) respectively. It also increased flower number, flower diameter (cm), number of petals, petiole diameter, flowering time, fresh and dry weight of flowers (g) which were (17.77, 6.85, 47.94, 0.33, 140.33, 2.35 and 0.28) respectively. For root growth, the GA3 treatment by 250 mg.L-1 increased tuberous roots, root diameter (cm), fresh and dry weight (g) which were (5.00, 2.80, 21.45 and 2.65) respectively. Coconut milk at 30% increased vegetative and flowering characteristics as in GA3. Spraying by coconut milk (30%) increased root diameter (2.89 cm) whereas, spraying 60% coconut milk increased number of roots, fresh and dry weight (g) which were (5.33, 21.35 and 2.97) respectively.
The interaction between GA3 (500 mg.L-1) and coconut milk (30%) caused significant increased in plant height (cm), stem diameter (mm), leaves number, shoot number , fresh weight (g) of vegetative part which were (33.33, 0.72, 190.00, 20.67 and 49.81) respectively. Same interaction caused increase in petiole diameter (mm), flowering period and dry weight (g) of flower which were (0.43, 82.00 and 0.40) respectively. Also it increased tuberous root diameter (cm) and fresh weight (g) which were (3.73and 30.52) respectively. |
