The road accidents and the consequent humanitarian tragedy constitutes a psychological burden on the citizen, as well as the prohibitive cost to society of the loss in human capital and material loss directly and indirectly as a result, rehabilitation and loss of physical assets cost of medical treatment. It has increased the seriousness of the problem of growing population numbers and vehicles, as well as the increase of mobility from place to place both inside and outside the cities, or whether the movement of individuals or goods.
The phenomenon of increase in the number of traffic accidents in the Sultanate of Oman and the resulting negative effects of a humanitarian and social nature of the problems they are made of composite problems of the multiplicity of variables and factors which, because the focus of this problem is the man, whether stand-alone or part of a group it belongs, where interacting factors and causes in a complex pattern.
This research aims to find out the current status of road accidents in the Sultanate, leading up to the drafting of a proposed system of indicators to reflect the level of traffic safety, and as a tool to evaluate the procedures used to achieve traffic safety witnessing Alstunh intensive and continuous efforts in order to achieve more traffic safety and reduce traffic accidents, as do the Sultanate's efforts Many in the preparation of a network of modern roads and that match many of their counterparts in the developed world the past few years have seen the establishment of many of the highways, and bridges for vehicles and pedestrians and establishing spending as well as improving the old transport routes and linking the main cities in the Sultanate, as well as the further development of Traffic signals that regulate the traffic, and the expansion of the continuous development of processes for services and means of traffic safety on the roads and increase the awareness programs and raise the traffic level of control over the roads and the development of first aid services. In spite of these efforts that the traffic accidents in the Sultanate rate is high and has serious implications when compared with international rates. Although Sgrahjm population in the Sultanate, which is estimated according to statistics in 2013 about 3,855,206 people, but the number of incidents of 7900 traffic accidents in the same year is high if compared to countries which converges with a population of residents of the Sultanate |
