| Abstract | ||
| This study deals with the changes of the hydro-morphs characteristics of Al-Shafee marsh (Hor el-Shafee) in the governorate of Basrah and the resulting environmental effects on such properties. The environment in Al-Shafee marsh is considered of the complete environments in its population and plantation and of the animal resources and its unique natural characteristics that have a major role in the process of environmental balance in the region. However, the draining and drying projects and the continuing demise in the water share which is available in the governorate, has been reflected in a negative manner on changing the hydro-morphological characteristics of Al-Shafee marsh. This is also, reflected on increasing the proportion of salts and some of the chemical elements available in its waters. This has led to cause clear diverse changes in the environment of this marsh represented by the local climatic conditions and dissertation and the decay of the agricultural areas and the decline of the bio-logical and animal resources in addition to the destruction of the entire fish wealth in the marsh. This has demanded a major review of the development planning in the environmental and biological system of Al-Shafee marsh. This work has demanded the use of geographic information system of map drawing which shows the times of study ( 1971 ,1999,and 2014) in order to outline the changes taking place in the morphs characteristics (area, proportion of roundabout and elongation and the reservoir shape factor, as well as the longitudinal and transverse dimensions of the marsh). Furthermore, a considerable amount of field work was carried out through the taking of (4) water samples that were distributed on the study area2014 and were analyzed in the south oil company and then compared with previous studies of the1998 study region. | ||
