| Abstract | ||
| Optical free space communications, often simply called free space optics (FSO), happened to be explored and further developed for the last four decades especially to fulfill the needs of aeronautical and space applications. FSO is all about the transmission of modulated electro-magnetic waves in the visible and infrared spectrum through the atmosphere. Because the propagation path changes in space and time that leads to its random behavior must be of major concern of ongoing research. Atmospheric effects such as rain, clouds and temperature fluctuations influence light propagation and may degrade the quality of transmitted signals severely. The emphasis of this work lies on the development and test of the turbulence generator, the overall concept of the testbed. The testbed makes it possible to reproduce test scenarios with realistic ratios of aperture size over Fried parameter. | ||
