Abstract
A field experiment was conducted in silty clay loam soil to study the effect of plow type (moldboard, chisel), tractor forward speeds (1.8, 3.6 and 5.4 km/hr), and seeding rates (140, 180, and 220 kg/ha) on the yield components and seed yield of barley Hordeum vulgare L. and wheat Triticum aestivum L. crops. The moldboard plow gave the highest spike number and seed yield for barley and wheat crops . Tractor forward speeds affected significantly as 5.4 km/hr tractor forward speed gave higher spikes number , seed number/spike and seed yield for barley and wheat crops. Seeding rates also affected significantly on spikes number and seed yield for barley and wheat crops as it increased with increasing seeding rates, while seed number/spike and weight 1000 grain decreased as the seeding rates increased. The results showed significant interaction effects as the moldboard plow and 5.4 km/hr tractor forward speed and 220 kg/ha seeding rate as it gave the highest spike number for barley 486.7 spike/m2, whereas the interaction treatment for moldboard plow and 220 kg/ha seeding rate gave the highest spike number for barley 458.2 spike/m2. The 5.4 km/hr tractor forward speed and 220kg/ha seeding rate as it gave the highest spike number for barley and wheat crops and it was 477.3 and 483.3 respectively, and the highest seed yield for barley4383.3 kg/ha.
