| Abstract | ||
| Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of female age and the duration of infertility on intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes. Study Design: A prospective cohort study . Patients and Methods: 145 couples underwent ICSI program with embryo transfer were enrolled in the fertility center of Al-Saddar Medical Teaching city in AL -Najaf. The female were divided into three groups according to age: group 1 (<30 years=71) , group 2( 30-34 years=33) and group 3( ≥35 years old=41) and according to the duration of infertility, they were divided into 2 groups: group I ( < 8 years infertility=76) , group II ( ≥ 8 years infertility =69) .They were compared for: Number (No.) of mature follicles obtained, No. of retrieved oocytes(opu) , No. of injected oocytes, Fertilization rate, No. of embryos ,Cleavage rate, Embryo grading , No. of embryo transferred and Pregnancy rate (biochemical pregnancy). Results: The number of mature oocytes , OPU , injected oocytes were significantly lower in the older age group ( P< 0.05) , there is negative significant correlation between age and number of oocytes retrieved (P<0.05) and r=0.224 and the pregnancy rate was the lowest with older age 26.8% .The number of grade I embryo was significantly lower when duration of infertility >8 years , negative correlation between duration of infertility and number of oocytes retrieved r=0.084 and the lowest pregnancy rate with increasing duration of infertility 28.9%. Conclusion: The duration of infertility was an age-related factor. Advancing female age and increasing duration of infertility had a negative correlation with success of ICSI and pregnancy rate . | ||
