Evaluate Atherogenicity Index in Type 2 Diabetic Mellitus Patients to Predict of Macrovascular Complications in Both Genders | ||

| Abstract | ||
| Objective: The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the predictive value for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease event by evaluating the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) in type 2 diabetic mellitus male and female and attempt to interpretation the differs in AIP values between two genders. Subjects and Methods: Three hundred thirty patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus (156 males and 157 females) with difference aged (35-63) years. Age, sex, duration of disease, measured blood pressure, electrocardiogram and calculated body mass index, body fat percentage and atherogenic index of plasma. Venous blood was collected after at least 8 hours fasting for glycated hemoglobin, fasting blood sugar, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were investigated in this study. Results: Show a significant increased (P<0.05) between males and females type 2 diabetic mellitus with ischemic heart disease in regard to biomarkers of cardio vascular disease risk factor (atherogenic index of plasma and total cholesterol / high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio) but a non significant increased (P> 0.05) in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio between two genders. Also a significant increased (P<0.05) was founded between males and females type 2 diabetic mellitus with and without ischemic heart disease in atherogenic index of plasma and total cholesterol /high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio with a non significant increased between them in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol /high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio. A positively significant correlation founded between atherogenic index of plasma and glycated hemoglobin in diabetic females and males with ischemic heart disease, also in diabetic females and males without ischemic heart disease. While total cholesterol /high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio are not significantly correlated (P>0.05) with glycated hemoglobin. Conclusions: Atherogenic index of plasma serves a sensitive tool to monitor and manage or predicted the abnormalities in both gender with type 2 diabetic mellitus and individuals at increased risk of chronic heart disease | ||
