Abstract
The Ottoman State took much care of its non-Muslim citizens (i.e. Christians and Jews). The base, upon which they depended to do this, was Islam which necessitated the Muslim State to take care of the interests of all the people under its banner, and it had issued laws and bases about this. By this, non-Muslims had, under the rule of the Ottoman State, enjoyed a good amount of freedom that guaranteed practicing their religious rituals; this also protected their funds and souls which were among their responsibilities. The life of those non-Muslims was better than that which they had among their religion-folks, and as it is known, that some sects had oppressed other ones; the history of Europe is full of several oppression events and wars that had taken place because of a religious basis. Taking care of non-Muslim sects was obvious in Mosul State which witnessed a customary, religious week characterized by blending and cohabiting. The non-Muslim clerics were recognized by the Ottoman authorities and were granted special merits; they were asked to assist in administering the issues of their sects autonomously. So, they got ranks and job positions. They were the mediator between the authorities and people of sects. Thus, this research was implemented to focus on the attitude of the Ottoman State about the non-Muslim Sects in Mosul from 1834A.D. to 1908 A.D., i.e. from the end of Al-Jalili era to the Ottoman coup.
