| Abstract | ||
| Abstract The city of Karbala had suffered a lot in its administration and economic activities, especially in its rural districts throughout a long period of its modern history. The political developments in Iraq during the late Ottoman era and the beginning of the British control help to generate political and administrative vacuum due to the withdrawal of civilian and military Ottomans staff and their departments. Many factors contributed to gather the popular efforts in order to organize revolution especially by the religious leader Imam Mohammad Riza Al Shirazy who called for armed methods to gain Iraqi Rights. Tribes leaders contributed in many conferences to regulate the preparatory work to declare the 1920 revolution by gathering weapons, men and money. The death of Imam Mohammad Riza Al Shirazy in August 17, 1920 created a vacuum in the revolutionary leadership which led Karbala to change their local government instead of local congress. The weakness of the revolution led the popular effort to focus on the political side to establish a notional government ruled by Prince Faisal as a king of Iraq in August 23, 1921. | ||
