The Crusaders had an important role in tearing up the unity of the Levant and weakening it through the areas they had taken over and the treaties they had established to disperse the unity of the Islamic nations after the death of Salah al-Din and the state of weakness that had plagued his country as a result of dividing the country among his successors and battles they fought against each other and against the Crusaders. In addition to this, the brutal attacks of the Mongols that destroyed the Islamic East during the second half of the seventh century AH / thirteenth century AD, and the fear and anxiety they spread among people played their own role in weakening the Levant.
As a result, the Mameluke state was the savior of the Islamic East, which was suffering from the Crusaders and Mongols who spread division, killing and destruction. During the Mameluke era, Homs Procuratorate played an important role in fighting against the Mongols and the Crusaders.
The purpose of this study is to show the importance of Homs Procuratorate, the boundaries of it during the Mameluke era, as well as the role it played through the efforts of its governors in the process of cleansing the Levant from the Crusader presence. The study will also show how Homs Procuratorate contributed to the process of conquests and liberation of Tripoli, Antioch, Ja'aber, Maltiyya and others, and its efforts in fighting the attacks of the Mongols and to show the battles fought by its army against the Mongol army and the victories achieved by them in Homs First Battle, Homs Second Battle and the Khazandar Battle, among others. |
