Abstract
Objectives: The study aims to show the geomorphological assessment of the determinants of urban expansion in the city of ‏, which represent the determinants of the Euphrates River from the northeast and Haditha Lake from the ‏northwest, and the western plateau edges from the west, as well as a number of other valleys, including the short ‏ and large ones, the most important of which are the Haqqlan Valley, the Zaghdan Valley, and the Banat al-Hassan Valley, which penetrate the edges of the western plateau into the Euphrates ‏. Methodology: The researcher followed the descriptive method quantitative methods and modern geographic techniques for determining and measuring geomorphologic effects . The study showed the effect of geomorphological determinants in the city of ‏, which resulted in many problems. The most prominent of these problems was the major urban sprawl towards ‏ agricultural lands located on the banks of the Euphrates River, the most important of which was between Daher, Hay Al-Askari, and Sheik ‏Hadid. The study showed in the city of Haditha that the expansion in the city of Haditha cannot continue with this longitudinal ‏expansion along the Euphrates River on the one hand, and the edges of the western plateau on the other hand, which requires the extension of a network ‏ways of transportation that work beyond these geomorphological determinants‏ Abstract : the fact that the city of Haditha falls under the influence of a set of specific controls for urban expansion in all directions, which do not allow for urban expansion, except through specific directions that were determined to the north of the city in the neighborhoods of Sheik Hadid and Al-Rifai. Recommendations: The study recommended several recommendations, among them that a modern city needs to find alternatives to the growth and expansion of the city and to search for good land, within the basic design of a modern city or villages, that is able to meet the needs of the city's residents. A modern city also needs to build bridges on the valleys of the western plateau, as well as building bridges connecting the two banks of the river, which is in accordance with the basic design of a modern city .
