Abstract
Objectives: The study aims to know the social and service development impacts of the cement and phosphate factories in Al-Qaim district. Method: The researcher followed the descriptive approach, which relies on studying the phenomenon as it exists in reality by paying attention to its accurate description, in addition to the systems approach (inductive-analytical approach). Results: The study showed that the size of the families working in the cement factory was between (5-10) and they constituted (83%), while the family size of the workers in the phosphate factory was (82%) as a percentage of the total number of workers whose ages ranged between (30-50) year . These percentages have reached the point where the number of family members is sufficient. The increase in income levels prompted them to increase the number of family members. In addition to this, the role of customs and traditions existing in the district, which is reflected in the increase in the number of family members. As for educational services, the percentage of primary schools established after the existence of the two factories was (21%) of the total number of schools in the district. For the secondary schools, the proportion of the complex’s schools reached (16%) of the total number of schools within the districts. All stages of the study witnessed a development after the establishment of the two laboratories. Conclusion: The presence of a residential complex affiliated with the cement and phosphate factories in the Al-Obaidi district, with residential plots allocated to the workers, played a role in solving and managing the housing problem for the workers. The two factories also contributed to increasing community services (education, religion, entertainment, roads, transportation, and water), especially within the two factories’ residential complex. Recommendations: The study recommended several things, including opening up to universities and research centers on a larger scale to benefit from their scientific and technical expertise. The necessity of cooperation with researchers to develop industrial activities in Al-Qaim district. Working to develop all services for the residents of Al-Qaim district, through developing the social, cultural, civilizational and behavioral reality of individuals. These will generate a clear society that aspires to scientific and cultural development
