Aims: The current study aimed to identify the mastery motivation among university students. It also aimed to identify the statistical differences in the mastery motivation among university students according to some demographical variables (gender and specialization).
Methodology: The research community consisted of (23,193) male and female students. The researchers randomly selected a sample of (300) male and female students from the students of University of Anbar, distributed according to gender and specialization equally. To achieve the research objectives, the researchers prepared a measure of mastery motivation according to Morgan Harmon’s theory (Morgan Harmon, 1990). The questionnaire consisted of (55) items that varied between positive and negative items. The researchers adopted the Lekert scale for the positive items (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) and (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) for the negative items.
Results: after analyzing the data using t-test for one sample, t-test for two independent samples, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Cronbach's alpha, the results showed that there is a moderate degree of mastery motivation. The results also showed that there is a statistical significant differences in mastery motivation according to the gender. Finally, the research did not show statistical significant differences according to the specialization variable (scientific, humanities) in the mastery motivation among students. |
