Abstract
The top-down pulsed laser ablation in liquids is a process that has many advantages in synthesizing nanoparticles. In this work, nanoparticles of pure nickel plate were prepared via pulsed laser ablation in the deionized water utilizing Nd: YAG laser with three wavelengths (1064, 532, and 355 nm) and three energies (50, 100, and 150 mJ). The results demonstrated the formation of nickel nanoparticles in addition to nickel oxide nanoparticles with spherical shapes in general where the average sizes (14.3 – 18.44 nm). It was found that the oxidation rate increases when the shorter wavelength of the laser is used in the preparation. It is generally clear that the intensity of absorption rises with increasing laser energy. Among the results obtained, the best wavelength used for the preparation is (532 nm), while the best energy is (150 mJ). This physical technique has proven its advantage in terms of ease and low cost for preparing metal nanoparticles and their nano oxides and controlling their properties by controlling the laser and ablation parameters.
