Abstract
Russian politics went through many transformations after the dissolution of the Soviet Union; Which made her strive, especially with the arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin to power in 2000, to try to build the Russian interior and restore its glories; By implementing many reforms at the internal level, On the external level, it sought to impose its regional power and extend its influence to neighboring countries, especially areas rich in wealth and areas inhabited by many residents who speak the Russian language, Here, Ukraine was one of these countries that Russia did not hesitate to try to contain and distance it from the Western orbit. To achieve what they aspired to, it did not limit itself to military means, but rather resorted to employing political terrorism in its policy and in various ways. The research problem focuses on the fact that power in the Russian authoritarian political system is centralized by nature; therefore, the security forces, the judiciary, and the loyal media environment subject to control are loyal and supportive of the Russian political system on the one hand, in addition to the regional determinants represented by the expansion of NATO and Western efforts to include Ukraine in the alliance on the other hand.
