Abstract This study aimed to measure the dimensions of the maxilla, including its width, depth, and index in three age groups by the using of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and methods: Cone-beam computed tomography images of 82 male and 98 female were divided into three age group 10-15, 16-20 and 21-25 years. The measurements of Buccal alveolar width (BAW), Palatal alveolar width (PAW), Depth, palatal index and palatal vault angle evaluations were made on coronal views in the level of upper first permanent molar .Independent 2-sample t tests was used for gender differences. Results: A significance differences were seen between male and female in (BAC), (PAW), and Depth in the total samples. In the age group 10-15 and 21-25 years, there is a significant difference between Male and Female for (BAC) and (PAW), In the age group 16-20 years a significant difference between (BAC), (PAW) and Depth. A positive significantly correlation between age and Depth, PAW and Index and weak correlation with BAC, the palatal index percentage were orthostaphyline (57.2%), followed by hypsistaphyline (32.2%) and chamestaphyline (14.6%). Conclusion: Male have large transverse maxillary measurement than female. Positive correlation was seen between age and PAW, Depth and Index. the majority of the study subjects were orthostaphyline (57.2%), followed by hypsistaphyline (32.2%) and chamestaphyline (10.5%). |
