| Semantics is one of the most important branches of linguistics. It collaborates with the other levels of language (sound, morphology, and syntax) to convey ideas to the recipient. The three levels of language constitute the body of the language, and semantics is its soul; without them, no language would have a soul. This semantics has different types, including definitive semantics and probabilistic semantics. Each type has instances that indicate it. The importance of Sibawayh's book is not hidden from us; this linguistic journey encompassed within its covers the language at all its levels: sound, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Some scholars even described it as an ocean. Those who wished to delve into or study language were asked, "Have you sailed the ocean?" They meant, "Have you studied or read Sibawayh's book?" Among the issues covered in this book was the issue of definitive semantics and probability. Therefore, this research came to present these two types of meaning in Sibawayh’s book, by studying their instances that the book included. |
