Evaluation of Metabolic Alterations Following Ovariohysterectomy: Analysis of Body Mass Index and Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) in Female New Zealand White Rabbits | ||

| Abstract | ||
| This study aimed to explore the physiological and metabolic outcomes of hysterectomy and oophorectomy of female New Zealand White rabbits and to compare the efficiency of a combination treatment of estradiol valerate and the Healthy Gut Probiotics to mitigate said outcomes. The rabbits comprising 50 animals were divided into five groups namely surgical sham-operated control group, two ovariohysterectomized groups receiving estradiol valerate (0.1 mg/kg IM daily) and probiotics (2.5 mg/ml orally daily) in two months and four-month periods, and two ovariohysterectomized groups without any ongoing treatment and left to observe in two months and four months, respectively. BMI was measured as well as insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and ultrasound examination of accretion of visceral fat. The findings revealed that uterine and ovarian excision induced considerable rising of BMI and HOMA-IR, as well as the developing notable visceral fat within the divers’ places of the bodies, notably over a length of time. Treated groups, in their turn, showed a pronounced decrease in these measures, which was indicative of a positive effect of the combined treatment used. Estradiol facilitated hormonal balance, whereas the probiotics promoted the gut and immune health which led to better metabolic indicators. These results indicate that estrogen deficiency in both surgically removed and natural menopausal women can be treated with beneficial effects on metabolic processes through a combination of hormone therapy and the use of probiotics, evidence that integrative medicine treatments of pyramid-like communication channels should target neuro-hormonal-immune pathways. | ||
