Abstract
Power in Russian politics is a vital topic for understanding the Russian Federation's influence in the international system. These components include fixed factors such as geography and history. The Russian Federation possesses vast territories and rich natural resources, as well as a long history that strengthens its regional position. Demographically, Russia is one of the world's most populous countries, providing it with significant manpower. Variable components include the economy, technology, and politics. The Russian economy faces challenges such as its heavy reliance on energy exports, while the Russian Federation seeks to enhance its technological capabilities. Politically, the Russian Federation plays an important role in global politics, seeking to maintain its influence and consolidate its status as a great power. In the context of military interventions, Russian power is clearly evident. In 2008, it intervened in Georgia to support the separatists in South Ossetia. In 2014, it annexed Crimea after the overthrow of the Ukrainian president. Then, in 2015, it intervened in Syria to support the regime of Bashar al-Assad. Finally, in 2022, it intervened militarily in Ukraine, which led to an escalation of tensions with Western countries. Thus, Russian power is manifested in its fixed and variable components, and is most prominently evident in its military interventions that impact the international system.
