Abstract
This study aimed to determine the protective effect of GRO against induced oxidative stress in a mouse model. Twenty-four adult male albino mice (180-200 g body weight) were divided into four equivalent groups: placebo group (0.1 NS), induced oxidative stress group (1% H2O2 daily with twice-daily drinking water change), 100% pure natural GRO essential oil (GRO) group (0.1 ml/mouse orally), and finally GRO 0.1 ml + H2O2 group. The experiment lasted for 30 and 60 days. This study demonstrated that heat shock proteins (HSPs) play a vital role in protecting cells under pathological conditions. Heat shock proteins and antioxidant enzymes were evaluated using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Treatment with galangal root oil and hydrogen peroxide at doses of 0.1 and 0.2 ml for 30 and 60 days improved the negative changes in oxidative stress parameters. The results showed increased gene expression of heat shock proteins (HSP 10, 70, 90 α, 90 β, α-B-crystalin, Mortalin, and G6PD78) and decreased gene expression of antioxidant enzymes in the presence of HSPs.
