Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the problems faced by international students in the science and engineering departments at Karabük University, Turkey, with a focus on academic and social issues. A semi structured interview model was used as the primary tool within a field survey research design. The participants included 152 international students, and their academic and social challenges were analyzed using questionnaires that examined several variables, such as the relationship between gender and mathematics grades and the effect of Turkish language proficiency on course evaluation. Statistical analyses were conducted in SPSS, including the chi-square test and Cramer’s V correlation coefficient, to assess the presence and strength of relationships among variables. The results indicated that the relationships between gender and mathematics grades, employment status and perceived exam difficulty, Turkish language proficiency and language course evaluation, and scholarships and the choice of Karabük University were weak to moderate, suggesting no strong association among these variables. Therefore, the findings suggest that these variables do not have a significant impact on the academic and social issues international students experience.
