Given the importance of Tolerance in the political life of societies with diverse cultures, ethnicities, and religions, and its role in building a unified, cohesive, and prosperous society, this research addresses this concept by providing a theoretical overview of tolerance and its types. This concept can be defined simply as accepting others, recognizing their rights and freedoms, and finding common ground for coexistence. Regarding the types of tolerance, several can be categorized in different contexts, such as tolerance based on what is being tolerated, the entity practicing tolerance, the sphere in which it occurs, its purpose, and its frequency and entrenchment. The research then attempts to present and analyze this concept from the perspective of one of the most prominent modern Islamic intellectual and political figures, Alija Izetbegović. Tolerance was embodied in his behavior, actions, and ideas. He led his people through the darkest of times, confronting the genocide of Bosnian Muslims before the eyes of the world. His steadfastness, along with that of the Bosnian Muslims, compelled the international community to intervene and stop the war. Ali Izetbegovic remained tolerant and did not harbor resentment or hatred within himself, not out of leniency or weakness, but because tolerance was a central and ethical concept for him, stemming from his faith, thought, and political philosophy. |
