Abstract
Political socialization plays a fundamental role in shaping the political awareness and voting behavior of individuals in Iraq after 2005, a period marked by significant changes in the political system following the fall of the previous regime. Through family, schools, and media, citizens acquire information and attitudes toward the political process and elections. Political socialization contributes to building a deeper understanding of their civil rights and duties, directly affecting voter turnout and the quality of political choices they make. In Iraq, political socialization faces challenges such as sectarian divisions, weak educational institutions, and external influences, which lead to biases and divisions in electoral behavior. Despite these difficulties, recent years have witnessed an increase in political awareness among youth and their efforts to express their will through elections. Therefore, strengthening healthy political socialization is an essential pillar for achieving democratic stability and sustainable political development in Iraq. Accordingly, the research raises a set of pivotal questions, including: What is the concept of political socialization in the Iraqi context, and what are its tools? How does political socialization influence the behavior of Iraqi voters? What factors hinder or enhance the impact of political socialization on electoral behavior? And how can political socialization be enhanced to ensure effective and sustainable electoral participation in Iraq?
