Abstract
Abstract : This study examines partial expressions in the Holy Qur’an from a tafsīr-based semantic perspective, focusing on their role as a rhetorical and interpretive device through which the overall meaning is conveyed by mentioning a specific part or a selected element within the Qur’anic context. The study aims to define the concept of partial expression, clarify its theoretical boundaries, and classify its major patterns as they appear in the Qur’anic discourse. These patterns include numerical, temporal, and metaphorical partial expressions, as well as expressions of specification, restriction, and elaboration after generalization. The research adopts an analytical and inductive approach by examining selected Qur’anic examples in light of their immediate and broader contexts, in order to demonstrate the impact of partial expression on meaning construction, interpretive guidance, and rhetorical precision. The analysis shows that partial expressions function not merely as stylistic variations, but as deliberate semantic tools that contribute to clarity, emphasis, and conciseness in Qur’anic expression. The study concludes that a systematic comparison between partial and whole expressions provides a methodological framework for understanding stylistic diversity in the Qur’an and highlights the richness and precision of Qur’anic discourse at both semantic and interpretive levels.
