| Abstract | ||
| Clinical risk factors are used in a traditional risk calculator to stratify patients for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). This research sought to determine whether coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) results in people with low to intermediate ASCVD risk scores introduced any change to their score or whether CCTA could reveal more insights regarding their risk of developing ASCVD or not. Methods: We conducted a quantitative cross-sectional study with the help of four hospitals with the participation of 151 patients, aged 40-79 years through in-person interviews, medical histories ( questioning their age, race, gender, history of diabetes and hypertension, medication history of hypertension treatment; statin and aspirin intake, and smoking status), and laboratory tests. A verified medical app calculated ASCVD risk scores based on these data. All participants underwent CCTA, and their reports were reviewed for the presence and severity of coronary artery stenosis to make a comparison between CCTA findings and ASCVD risk scores. Results: Among the 151 participants, 59.6% were male, and the mean age was 53. The bulk (76.2%)of them were nonsmokers, and 25.8% had diabetes mellitus. A statistically remarkable association was found between risk scores categories (low, borderline, intermediate) and stenosis severity (p=0.003). Considerably, 46.3% of patients who classified as low or intermediate risk showed evidence of coronary artery stenosis on imaging. ASCVD risk score may not accurately detect all individuals with significant coronary artery stenosis with certain precision. Our findings suggests incorporation of CCTA into the management of the patients along with the ASCVD risk scores. | ||
