| Abstract | ||
| This study aims to examine the role of mediation as a form of diplomacy in resolving regional conflicts, most notably the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which constitutes a major security and geopolitical threat in the Arab region. Despite Arab and international efforts and initiatives to resolve the crisis, the contradictions in diplomatic solutions and the involvement of several regional states with one side or the other have prevented a lasting solution and an end to the fighting. The study concludes that numerous political contradictions and a lack of a unified political vision exist among the proposed initiatives to resolve the conflict, and that regional interests must be given equal importance to national interests in order to achieve regional stability in the Arab world. The study included two sections. The first section dealt with the obstacles to the role of diplomacy in resolving regional conflicts in the Arab region. The first requirement dealt with the political obstacles to the role of mediation diplomacy in the Arab region, while the second requirement dealt with the opportunities to enhance diplomacy in resolving regional conflicts in the Arab region. The second section dealt with mediation diplomacy efforts to resolve the conflict in Sudan. The first requirement dealt with regional initiatives to contain the conflict in Sudan, while the second requirement dealt with the diplomatic contradictions to resolve the conflict in Sudan. | ||
