Abstract
This study aims to analyze how global economic relations interact with the reality of food security in Arab countries. The analysis focuses particularly on global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia–Ukraine crisis, which caused disruptions in supply chains and increased the cost of essential goods. The study assumes that the current integration of Arab countries into the global market has increased their dependence on food imports, making their food security vulnerable to changes in the international economic system. Additionally, the study reviews the evolution of the concept of food security, which is no longer solely linked to food availability but also encompasses factors such as stability and the ability to respond to shocks. The impact of trade, investment, and global financial trends on the ability of Arab countries to achieve self-sufficiency is also examined, especially given the growing reliance on imports. The study concludes by emphasizing the urgent need to balance trade openness with food self-sufficiency, through supporting domestic production, diversifying trade partnerships, and improving Arab cooperation in managing strategic food reserves.
