Abstract
The current study was conducted to determine the impact of two varieties of barley (white and black), seed coverage (5-10 and 10-20) cm, with sowing method (seed drill, conventional and overlapped seed broadcasting), on green yield and yield components during two successive winter season (2022-2023 and 2023-2024)at Bakrjo site, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan- Iraq Region . Using split-split plot design with three replications, in Sulaymaniyah. where two barley cultivars were allocated to the main plot, namely white and black barley, the seed coverage depth in the subplot were 5-10 cm and 10-20 cm, while the sub-subplots represented planting methods, including seed drill, conventional and overlapped spreading by a seed broadcaster machine. The net plot area was 18 m x 30 m. Random samples were taken from each experimental unit to study the characteristics of plant height, number of grains per plant, number of grains per spike, number of spikes per m2, thousand-grain weight, grain yield, straw yield, biological yield, and harvest index. All agricultural operations were carried out according to crop requirements and recommendations. The result indicated the superiority of the white variety in all characteristics at both seasons compared to the black variety. The seed coverage (10 -20) cm was found to be the best for almost all studied characteristics. Regarding the sowing method, it was found that using a seed drill showed superiority for the studied characteristics compared to other methods. It was observed that the second season exceeded the first one in most characteristics.
