Abstract
The otacariasis of cats is widespread parasitic infestation which caused by the popular mites of ear, Otodectes cynotis, which comes back to family; Psoroptidae. Notoedric mange, caused by Notoedres cati this mite is belong to family; Sarcoptidae. The study objective was to characterize Otodectes cynotis and Notoedres cati from different areas of Mosul City. Mites were accumulated from cats and experienced laboratory analysis further identification. The retrieved mites were recognized microscopically. Developmental instars, adult males and females as well as eggs, deutonymphs, were distinguished based on taxonomic dichotomous key as well as recording the morphometric analysis. There were many important morphological features which have great classificatory value, as the position of the slitlike anus, suckers at the distal part of short stalks of first and second pair of female mite, Otodectes cynotis legs. For example, but not limited to the measurements of O. cynotis eggs were (96.92 × 200.45) µm, specifically for the newly laid eggs, while oldest one measured (101.17 × 201.92) µm. Regarding female O. cynotis mite measurements were (264.43 × 448.16) µm, however male quantified (205.57 × 253.41) µm and other important architectural characteristics. This work showed that the measurements of second type of mites, Notoedres cati male mite (210.28 × 295.46) µm in addition to some major morphological specifications, like aedeagus form and anus position, also distribution of suckers by males and females legs, presence of thumb print like under microscope, which are considered one of the significant diagnostic key for ear mites of the cats.
