| Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a severe disorder that is often related to environmental poisoning, including the paraquat that is a common herbicide which causes oxidative stress and tissue damage to the kidney. This study investigated the potential nephroprotective properties of lycopene, nano-lycopene, and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) against paraquat-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. There were Forty adult male rats were divided into five groups: control, paraquat, lycopene (50 mg/kg), nano-lycopene (25 mg/kg), and CoQ10 (50 mg/kg). The 21-day experimental session was split into two stages. During the first week paraquat (10 mg/kg, orally) was administered to induce AKI. for the subsequent two weeks, the paraquat was administered to the treated groups concomitantly with the protective agents, but the treatment ceased for all groups except the paraquat group during the final four days.. Histophysiological examination was used to assess kidney structure alterations. Exposure to Paraquat caused marked a significant deterioration in renal architecture, including tubular necrosis, glomerular shrinkage, and interstitial inflammation. Conversely, treatment with nano-lycopene markedly improved these changes, showing the most a significant pronounced reduction in oxidative stress markers and near-normal a histological appearance compared with lycopene and CoQ10 groups. The nano-lycopene-treated group also exhibited restoration of antioxidant enzyme activities. |
