| A field experiment was conducted during the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 seasons as part of the National Vegetable Seed Multiplication Program, Horticulture Department, Ministry of Agriculture, to develop 30 tomato hybrids using the line × tester method. The study employed three pure local tomato lines (P1–P3) as male parents and ten cherry tomato lines (S1–S10) as female parents. In the second season, 43 genotypes (parents and hybrids) were evaluated under a randomized complete block design with three replicates to assess hybrid performance and parental contribution. Among the male parents, P1 excelled in plant height (2.56 m), number of leaves (39), flowers (71.20), fruits (48.41), and yield (3.100 kg), P3 showed the highest fruit set (73.96%), and P2 led in fruit weight (89.90 g). Among the females, S8 was superior in plant height (2.79 m), leaf number (50.67), and fruit weight (24.50 g), while S2 recorded the highest flower count (805.60), fruit number (323.63), and yield (3.890 kg). The hybrid P1 × S8 was the most outstanding, with a plant height of 3.19 m, 70 leaves, a fruit set of 93.65%, and the highest yield at 5.810 kg. Most traits displayed significant positive hybrid vigor, except fruit weight, which showed a negative hybrid effect. The hybrid also exhibited a notable heterosis of 81.61% in yield per plant |
