| Abstract | ||
| This field experiment evaluated the application of the pendimethalin herbicide on weed biomass and related yield traits of the faba bean plant under various sowing dates. It involved applying the herbicide at the pre-planting, pre-emergence, and post-emergence phases in full and half-recommended doses in addition to a weedy check and weed-free treatment as controls. Plant sowing was conducted on October 20, November 5, and November 20. The results indicated that the pre-planting full-dose treatment outperformed the other treatments in reducing dry weed biomass and enhancing the number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 100-seed weight, and total seed yield. For sowing, the earliest sowing date recorded the highest values for number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, 100-seed weight, and total seed yield. The study suggests that selecting an appropriate sowing date and an effective herbicide treatment can significantly enhance productivity and reduce weed competition in faba bean fields. It is recommended to apply the pre-planting full-dose of pendimethalin treatment at the earliest sowing date (October 20) to achieve optimal results. Residues from the herbicide were negligible and almost non-existent in the faba bean leaves, which confirms its low toxicity and encourages its possible use | ||
