Abstract
The era of Tokugawa regime which was extended from 1603 until 1868 have been considered by many historians and political scientist through their analyzation as the most important stage in Japanese modern history. Their Judgments depended upon the regime's achievements such as stability, peace, national unity, social harmony and acceptable level of prosperity. All these accomplish – ments paved the way for " Meiji Ishin (or Meiji Restoration) who engaged in whole sale borrowing of western institutions and practices in addition to that they hired foreign consultants to advise them how to rebuilt Japan in western methods instead of Chinese . The Tokugawa might not have been able to maintain so stable a system of rule or such great social fluency if they had not also isolated Japan from upsetting foreign influences the sixteenth century – The direct threat to Japan by Imperialism came in the mid – nineteenth century – To this challenge Tokugawa regime responded with much greater speed and far success than china . No wars were fought no smuggling trade of opium developed no territory was lost. The Shogunt ' capitulation in 1853 meant the ultimate collapse in 1868 after it had laid the fundamentals basis transformation Japan from Feudal state into centralized national state
