Effect of Seedling Age on Growth Characteristics of Three Oriental Tobacco varieties ( Nicotiana tabacum L. ) | ||

| Abstract | ||
| This experiment was conducted in the Nursery of College of Agriculture , University of Kirkuk during Spring season of 2008 to study the effect of Four seedlings Ages (7 , 8 , 9 and 10 Weeks ) after sowing whith Three Oriental Tobacco varieties ( Gul spy , Gul sor and Samsun-1 ) on the growth characteristics of seedlings . The R. C. B. D. in the split plot with Three replications was used in this experiment . The results indicated that the seedling age at 10 weeks affected significantly on most of the characters studied as stem height , stem diameter , No. of leaves / seedling , root length , seedling length , fresh weight of ( leaves , stem , and seedling ) , dry weight of ( leaves , stem and seedling ) and percentage of dry matter in the ( leaves , stem and seedling ) . seedling age at 7 weeks affected significantly on the percentage of the fresh and dry weight of leaves stem fresh and dry weight , percentage of the fresh and dry weight of leavesvegetative part fresh and dry weight , But seedling age at 9 weeks affected significantly on the leaf thicknees only . Also a significant effect was found between the varieties , Gul spy variety affected significantly on the seedling dry weight and percentage of dry matter in the leaves , Gul sor variety affected significantly on the stem diameter , stem fresh and dry weight , But Samsun-1 variety affected significantly on the following characters : leaves dry weight , seedling dry weight, percentage of the leaves dry weight stem dry weight and percentage of the leaves dry weightvegetative part dry weight . No significant effect found between the varieties of characters No. of leaves / seedling and leaf thicknees . | ||
