| Abstract | ||
| Both hypertension and irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) are affected by psychological stressful conditions. So, it is expected that hypertensive patients have a prevalence of IBS more than the general population. In order to prove that a case – control study was designed and 200 hypertensive patients and 200 persons from general population in Tikrit were reviewed by direct questionnaire and the study revealed 53% of hypertensive patients have IBS while only 30% of general population have IBS, the difference was statistically highly significant. Female : male ratio was 1.94 : 1 and 1.73 : 1 in hypertensive patients and general population respectively. IBS-mixed was the most frequent type followed by IBS-constipation, IBS-diarrhea and IBS-unsubtyped in both hypertensive patients and general population. This study conclude that hypertensive patients have more tendency to IBS than general population. | ||
