| Abstract This study was performed in the period from October 2010 till January 2011 in the Agrobiotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Putra Malaysia ( UPM (. Fifty mg of the callus that obtained from shoots of two grape ( Vitis vinifera L.) cultivars (Amber Queen and Cardinal) were cultured in Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 1 mg/L BA + 2 mg/L NAA and also supplemented with 5 different concentrations of Polyethylene glycol (PEG) of 8000 gmmole molecular weight (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) to study the effect of water stress on the levels of peroxidase and catalase enzymes, proteins and carbohydrates in the callus.The callus was incubated in growth chamber for 4 weeks in 25 ± 2ºc temperature and light intensity of 1000 lux for 16 hours followed by 8 hours of darkness everyday. These changes occurred as a natural mechanism to resist the water stress and its effect in increasing free radicals. | ||
