Abstract
A field experiment was conducted at the research farm of Dept of Field Crop Sciences-University of Baghdad during two successive winter season 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 to study the effect of foliar application with zinc on yield and its components of two cultivars of faba bean( Vicia faba). The layout of the experiment was a split-plot arrangement with R.C.B.D design with three replicates. The two cultivars (local cultivar and luzde otono Spanish cultivar) were assigned in the main plots, while zinc concentrations (control , 30,60,90 mg.l ) as sub-plots. Results showed that the concentration 90 mg.l was superior in the percentage of fertility 6.47, 6.98 % in both seasons, respectively, also concentration 60 mg.l was superior in the number of pods per plant, 34.60 and 36.05 in both seasons, respectively, The concentration 60 mg.l was superior in number of seeds per pod (3. 94, 3.63) in both seasons, respectively . Also the same concentration gave the highest seed weight (1105, 1166 ) mg in both seasons, respectively. The highest seed yields, 2550 and 2799 kg.ha were obtained from foliar applications by zinc concentration 60 mg.l in both seasons, respectively. The results showed that Spanish cultivar was the best in yield and its components. It was recommended to grow the Spanish cultivar with the application of zinc concentration 60 mg.l. |
