| Abstract | ||
| This is a prospective study to evaluate the stability of completely displaced supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children and risk of nerve damage and others complications after internal fixation of two groups of patients ; one group treated with medial- lateral pin fixation and the other group of patients treated with 2- lateral pin fixation. It is randomized controlled study. Patients with completely displaced supracondylar fractures admitted to Samarra general hospital during the period from first of February 2010 to first of January 2011and divided into group treated with medial-lateral pin(n=11) and the other group of patients treated with 2-lateral pin fixation(n=10). 21 patients included in this study with mean age was 6.5 years. The mean follow up period was 4 months. The mean loss in Baumann angle was 4.38 degrees for those treated with medial-lateral pin fixation and 4.8 degrees for those treated with 2-lateral pin fixation. The mean loss in carrying angle was 4.44 degrees and 4.9 degrees in medial-lateral pin fixation and 2-lateral pin fixation, respectively. The mean loss in elbow flexion was 5.67 degrees in medial-lateral pin fixation and 4.76 degrees in those treated with 2-lateral pin fixation. The mean loss in elbow extension was 6.35 degrees and 6 degrees in medial-lateral pin and 2- lateral pin fixation , respectively. There was no cases of iatrogenic nerve injury and no cases of infection or vascular injury and by the end of the period of physiotherapy all the cases regain full range of movements and there was no cases of elbow stiffness in either groups of patients. Statistical analysis show no differences in either groups of patients. | ||
