| Abstract | ||
| The current study is designed to investigate the prevalence of Enterobius vermicularis among children aged between 1-12 years in Kalar town for the period from first of April to 30th of October 2008, and its effect on some physical, neurological, hematological and biochemical parameters. The scotch tape method is applied for 1008 children (557 male and 451 female). In order to compare the efficacy for detection of the eggs of E. vermiclais in stool samples, Direct wet mount technique, Zinc sulfate floatation technique and Scotch tape technique were applied on 101 children. Weight and height of 249 infected children, previously examined by scotch tape method, were measured, using mechanical scale and portable tape measure respectively and compared with 37 control cases. Venous bloods were collected from 106 infected and 25 non infected children. Estimation of serum total protein, albumin and globulin was done using spectrophotometer. Hemoglobin concentrations, packed cell volumes and white blood cells were estimated for 88 infected and 25 control cases. The total positive rate of infections was (24.9%). The rate of infection in males was (26.57%) higher than females (22.83 %). The rate of infection was higher (29.5 %) in school aged children, than preschool children (21.51 %). Positive results appeared in one child (0.95 %) for direct technique, while two children were positive by concentration technique (1.95 %), in comparison to scotch tape method which was (26 %) for the same tested children. Enterobius had significant relation with pruritis ani (61.42%) and nocturnal enuresis (53.38%) but had no effect on body weight and height of children. Although the Hb value was lower and WBC was higher in infected children than non-infected ones but their values were within normal | ||
