Biochemical studies of flavonoids, glycosides and active proteinous compounds isolation from Burdock (Arctium Lappa) roots in normal and diabetic rats | ||

| Abstract | ||
| This study was included the isolation of a flavoniods, glycosides and proteinous compounds of Arctium Lappa roots. The proteinous compounds, separated by using the gel filtration technique which was isolated two compounds A (M.wt 99426) Dalton and B (M.wt 2570) Dalton. Compounds were administrated interaperitioneally. After one week from the treatment the results were indicated that the flavoniods and glycosides at the dose (1,1.5)mg/kg body weight which were caused a significant decrease (P < 0.05) in serum glucose (glu), total cholesterol (TC) levels, with an associated significant increase (P < 0.05) in serum high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), vitamin C and vitamin E level, Glutathion peroxidase (GSH-PX) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme activity in liver, kidney and heart tissues, in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Finally, we suggest that most of compounds isolated from Arctium Lappa roots (especially the flavoniods) have antireactive oxygen species (ROS) effect in normal and diabetic rats. | ||
