| Abstract | ||
| Azo derivative compound and its metal (cobalt, nickel, copper and zinc) complexes have been synthesized by the reaction of p-amino benzoic acid and resorcinol in (1:1) mole ratio. The bidentate ligand was react with the metal ions (II) in 2:1 mole ratio via reflux in methanol, using Et3N as a base to give complexes of the general formula [M(H2L)2] where; M=Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2 and Zn+2. The synthesized compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods [I.R, U.V.-Vis, A.A and 1H NMR] along with melting point, chloride content, magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements. The data of these studies and measurements suggest a square planar geometry around Ni+2 ion and tetrahedral geometry around (Co+2, Cu+2 and Zn+2) ions. The synthesized ligand along with their metal complexes was screened for their in vitro antibacterial activity against four local strains of E-coli as Gram-negative bacteria in addition to two strains of Pseadomanas. Five Gram-positive bacteria utilizing for locally strains of Staphylococcus were tested also using the agar diffusion technique. | ||
