In this study, the methanolic extract was isolated from Ruta graveolens (fruits), then the alkaloids and phenols were obtained pure by isolation the methanolic extract, and determined the inhibiting effect for these compounds on growth five types of bacteria: Echerichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, and used the antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin and Chloramphenicol) as control samples.
The methanolic extract showed higher inhibitory effect from the antibiotics effect on S. typhi, Staph. aureus, K. pneumoniae and Bacillus subtilis, while its effect less than the antibiotics on E. coli.
Alkaloids showed high inhibitory effect against all bacteria which used in this study. Alkaloids showed higher effect from antibiotics on Staph. aureus, S. typhi, K. pneumoniae and Bacillus subtilis, while its effect on E. coli less than the antibiotics effect.
Phenols showed higher inhibitory effect from antibiotics against Staph. aureus, S. typhi, K. pneumoniae and Bacillus subtilis, while its effect on E. coli less than the antibiotic effect.
From all we showed that the inhibitory effect for alkaloids higher from methanolic extract and phenols while the methanolic extract showed inhibitory effect higher then phenols effect |
