This study was conducted at AL- kufa Technical Institute´s poultry farm during the period from 11th March to 19th April 2004, to investigate the influence of different levels of zinc sulfate on spermatogenesis of roosters .
Atotal of( 148) shaver cocks, 18th weeks old at (2) kilogram average weight were used in this study .
Twenty cocks were used to obtain LD50 for zinc sulfate by two rautes , first by injection and other by drinking water (orally ) .the other( 128) cocks were left for (12) days as adaptation
and until the two LD50 route are finish then distributed to eight pens each one contain (16 ) cocks for each pen . there are four pens for injection route in which the concentrations of zinc sulfate were ( 0 ,10 ,15, 20 ) mg/kg of B.W. daily . However there were four pens for drinking water route in which the concentrations Of zine sulfate were ( 0,100,150,200 ) mg /kg of B.W. daily . four exposure period (One week, Tow weeks, Three weeks ,and Four weeks) for every treatment were added as asecoud factor .Four cocks from each treatment were randomly slaughtered weakly and autopsied to obtain the testes, testicular weight was determined immediatley after werds .
All demanded testes are done to study six characteristics which are the most inportant to spermatogenesis in cocks :
1- Weekly weight changes 2- Relative testes weight
3- Semineferous tubules diameter 4- Germinal epithelial height .
5-Number of spermatogenetic cells . 6- Number of sertoli cells .
The result were showed LD50 by injection is reach 500 mg / k of B.W. at ( 7 ) days,While LD50 by drinking water is reach 500 mg / k of B.w..
Cocks injected by more than 10 mg/kg of B.W. or the exposure of cocks in drinking water to more than 100 mg/kg of B.W.daily were Dramaticaly effected on spermatogenesis in cocks. However , the period of exposure didn't effect significantly . |
