Plantar Fasciitis: Treatment Modalities and Recurrence Rate in Babylon. A Prospective Study | ||

| Abstract | ||
| In Merjan teaching hospital (189) patients (221 feet) with plantar fasciitis were recorded and reviewed in 4-week intervals for one year. Only 76 patients (94 feet) completed the study. Improper foot wear and over activity were the main among other apparent risk factors. On comparison with previous noted studies , our study showed lower recovery (cure) rate (~77%) , following 6 months of combined protocol of non-surgical therapy (rest ,use of heel cup ,stretching of calf muscles exercise , and local corticosteroid injection ,whenever indicated ). In addition to high recurrence rate (~ 50%). Patient’s poor compliance ,unavailability of proper foot wear ,and ongoing on over activity were found the main cause of low success rate of recovery and/or high recurrence rate. The study showed , as previously noted by others, no strict correlation between calcaneal spur formation and the symptoms | ||
