Abstract
Epilepsy is a common problem in clinical practice. There are many reasons causing this type of
neurological disorders. A prospective study was done in Kirkuk city from Oct. 1997 to Feb. 1998
& included 92 subjects (45 epileptic patients & 47 healthy non epileptic subjects as control). All
patients & healthy subjects were fully assessed & patients diagnosed as epileptic by neurosurgeon.
Their age range from birth to 30 years for both males & females. Blood serum were collected from
each subject & frozen until used. Atomic spectrophotometer was used for determination of the
level of calcium & magnesium. In this study, a low concentration calcium & magnesium were
found in the sera of epileptic patients
