| A total of 228 fingef specimens were collected fiom a hundrcd patients sufiering from chronic paronychia (C.P). The causal agents wefe isolated in pure form using difiereni types ol diagnostic culturc media (Saboufaud's dexlrose agar, blood agar, Eosin Methylene Blue agar, and Kligler iron agaf slop and butt). They $,cre lirlly identified by rrsing colonial morphology, ge n tube for alion test, chlanrydospor€ lbrnratioD tesl. and lcmernaLion ofdiiTereni types ofsugars. Can.li.la speLies ,,/ete isolated ffom 164 nail folds (72%). while (95.6%) werc grun-negatire bacilli and (96.6%) |erc gtam-positire cocci. The multiple infections (Candida + g'.dr-pasitiw cacci + grcn-negatiw bacill, accrt:n 92 (40.4%) nail folds. The isolates wefe fully identified baclefiologicaly. The oral carriage of Cardnld specid aas (369/0); this indicates that oral contarnjnation of the hands with Cdn.tidd species 1s rhe nosl comnon cause ofC.P. The nrost prevalert isolated species af Candida i C.P. \as C.albicans 62 (45.3%) out of 137, C.bapi.dlit 53 (33.1%), C.kerrrc 21115.3%) and C.gu ieromondil I (0.7%). There s,as a sigrificantly difference between CdLlcans, C.kefure andC.gulliercno dii;(P--0.01).Brt the.e was no s;gnificanl.
